What is ADAS calibration — and why your new windshield needs it

Most cars built after 2016 have ADAS — Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control. The cameras and radar behind these systems usually sit right behind your windshield.

Here's the catch: when the windshield comes out, that camera moves. Even a millimeter of misalignment changes where the system 'thinks' the road is — and that can mean late braking or a wandering lane warning.

That's why manufacturers require a recalibration after every windshield replacement. There are two kinds: static (done with targets in the shop) and dynamic (done driving at specific speeds on marked roads). Many vehicles need both.

At ClearRoute we calibrate to manufacturer spec, with the right targets and procedures for your make and model — and we document everything for your insurance claim. Skipping calibration isn't saving money; it's gambling with the system that brakes for you.

Not sure if your car has ADAS? If it has a camera pod near the rearview mirror or buttons for lane-keep on the wheel, it does. Send us a photo of your windshield — we'll confirm in minutes.

Tell us about the damage.
